Project Lumen was featured by Zeit Magazin #42, 2017; Ein Heft über unseren Körper.
Lumen* is an ongoing photographic and multimedia series started in 2014.
The project has its beginning in an observation of flies swarming around a street lamp at night. In all the photos, the environment is the only immortal object amongst other living organisms – like a lamp amongst moths.
Proportion between macro and micro world, and between longevity and a short moment is disturbed. In this project, light exists to bring out hidden details and distort perception of time. Flash burn emphasizes the fragile organic nature of living substances and equates people and insects.
* The lumen (symbol: lm) is the SI derived unit of luminous flux, a measure of the total “amount” of visible light emitted by a source.
